Your Smile Speaks Volumes, So Put On a Happy Face

MADISON, WI (January 1998), American adults believe that an attractive, healthy smile says a lot about a person, positive or otherwise.

According to a nationwide survey conducted for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), some 92% of the respondents (90% of the men and 94% of the women) say an attractive smile is an important social asset.

On the other hand, a large number of adults say an unattractive smile makes a person less appealing to the opposite sex (85%), or can hurt a person’s chances for career success (74%). But when it comes to their own smiles, only about half of American adults like what they see.

"That response isn’t at all surprising," says (Your Name & Practice). "Cosmetic dentists see scores of people every year who want us to redesign their smile."

Not everyone has what they consider the "picture-perfect" smile, (Your Name) says, for any number of reasons: crooked or discolored teeth they’ve had since childhood, too many metal fillings, gaps between teeth, and so on.

"The field of cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in the last ten years," (he/she) says.

"There are a number of new techniques, from bleaching and porcelain veneers, to "invisible" fillings and bonding, and more, so it’s important that people consult with a cosmetic dentist to design a tailored treatment plan that works best for them."

Today’s dentists, who have extensive training and experience in the continually expanding cosmetic dentistry field, use both science and artistry to create the smile they want. Credentialed cosmetic dentists keep up-to-date on the latest techniques and are a resource for anyone seeking professional consultation, understanding and quality treatment.

"Now that they’ve seen what cosmetic dentistry can do for a smile’s appearance and the ultimate health of their teeth," says (Your Name), "adults know they don’t have to hide behind closed lips anymore."

Consumers interested in learning more about cosmetic dentistry and their options can call the American Academy for Cosmetic Dentistry, founded in 1984, the largest international dental organization specifically dedicated to the art and science of cosmetic dentistry. AACD’s mission is to be a leader in dentistry through excellence, education and integrity to benefit the health, function and beauty of all individuals.
