Porcelain Laminate Veneers

Veneers are a popular treatment for a variety of smile problems. Veneers are the ultimate restoration for spaces, chips, and fractures; resulting in a dramatic cosmetic makeover. They are more involved than bonding with fabrication done in a dental laboratory and require at least two visits. The advantage that veneers have over bonding is their color stability and much longer life expectancy.

Preparation of the veneer(s) is done in the first visit and may or may not require use of a local anaesthetic. Due to the minimal amount of tooth reduction, it is usually not necessary to fabricate any type of temporary restoration. Should a temporary be needed, they can, in most circumstances, be made at the time of treatment.

In approximately one week, a dental laboratory will fabricate the veneer(s) and a second visit to the dentist is required to insert the veneer(s). The insertion can be accomplished with or without local anaesthetic, as was the preparation. This visit is usually longer in length. The laminates are placed with a light sensitive resin that is hardened by using a white light. Veneers are not reversible since a small amount of tooth enamel (about .5mm) is removed in adhering the facing to the tooth.
